Lost your card or want to get a new one? You have the option to block your card Temporarily (deactivate) or Permanently.
What's the difference?
Blocking your card temporarily is a reversible action. If you deactivate your card, you can activate it once again in the future. If you want to reactivate your card, you can find out more here.
Blocking your card permanently is an irreversible action. If you block your card permanently, you can no longer unblock it and you will need to order a new card. You can find out how to order a new card here.
How do I block my card temporarily?
To temporarily block your card, follow the steps below:
bunq App
Go to ๐ณ Cards tab
Select the card you want to deactivate by swiping through your cards
Tap on โ๏ธ Settings
Tap on Block Card
Select ๐ฆ Block Temporarily
Done ๐

Log in to bunq Web
Select the card you want to deactivate
Click on โ๏ธSettings in the top right corner
Click on Block Card
Select ๐ฆ Block Temporarily

Where can I find my blocked cards?
Wondering what happens to your cards when you block them?
Temporarily blocked cards
Your temporarily blocked cards will stay visible in your ๐ณ Cards Tab.
They will feature a little โ๏ธ Frozen sign to remind you that they are deactivated. If you would like to reactivate your card, you can do so by following the steps outlined here.
Keep in mind: Temporarily blocked cards still count toward your plan's card limit. If you'd like to order a new card, you may need to permanently block your card before ordering a new one.
For example, if you're on the bunq Free plan, you can only have 1 digital card. When you temporarily block your card and try to order a new one, the app will suggest an upgrade. To get a new digital card and stay on the bunq Free plan without upgrading, you can permanently block your existing card, and then order a new one.

To keep your ๐ณ Cards Tab tidy and easy-toโnavigate, we move your permanently blocked cards to the *Archive.
If you need to access a permanently blocked card to check your card details, review payments or export a statement, you can do so by following these steps:
bunq App
Go to your ๐ก Home tab
Go to your Profile in the top left corner
Select Archive
Select Cards - your permanently blocked cards are visible here
Choose the permanently blocked card you want to view.

Click on Archive
Select Cards
Choose the permanently blocked card you want to view.
Can my card get automatically blocked?
Due to security reasons, your card will be automatically blocked temporarily if there are multiple failed card transactions due to insufficient balance. If the same card keeps experiencing more failed transactions, it'll be blocked permanently.
In case your card is only blocked temporarily, you can re-activate it by simply following the steps explained above - once you do, you'll be able to either top-up the Bank Account linked to the card in question or link the card to a Bank Account with sufficient balance.
